JOURNEY TO FREEDOM SERIES PT 3: Spiritual Laws

  • When we bring baggage from our past it affects our present and our future. When we are not able to forgive the people that have hurt us… when we make inner vows… when we repeat the cycle because of the iniquities… we are in bondage. We are in bondage because, without realizing, we are breaking a spiritual law.
  • Spiritual laws are a part of God’s character.

#1) LAW OF UNITY

Genesis 11:6 NLT

“Look!” he said. “The people are united, and they all speak the same language. After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them!

Acts 2:1-2 NKJV

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting…

Ephesians 4:3-6 NLT
Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father, who is over all and in all and living through all.

#2) LAW OF JUDGEMENTS

Romans 2:1 NLT

You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things.

Luke 6:37 NKJV

“Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

judge = krinō = decide (mentally or judicially); by implication, to try, condemn, punish: — avenge, conclude, condemn, decree, determine, esteem, judge, go to (sue at the) law, call in question, sentence to, think.

condemn = katadikazō; to adjudge against, i.e. pronounce guilty: condemn.

  • The word judge implies a decision to avenge and desire a sentence… to condemn
  • The word condemn implies pronouncing, declaring it.

Matthew 7:1-5 ESV

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

James 4:11-12 ESV

Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?

Law of Judgement

1) Do not judge/condemn your brothers/sisters.

2) Judge/condemn your brother’s/sister’s actions only after dealing with your own hypocrisy.

Bonus: Don’t judge/condemn outsiders.

1 Corinthians 5:12-13 NLT

It isn’t my responsibility to judge outsiders, but it certainly is your responsibility to judge those inside the church who are sinning. God will judge those on the outside; but as the Scriptures say, “You must remove the evil person from among you.”

#3) LAW OF REAPING & SOWING

  • When we break the law of judgments, we activate the law of reaping & sowing.

A)  It Comes Back To You

Proverbs 11:27 NLT

If you search for good, you will find favor; but if you search for evil, it will find you!

Matthew 7:12 ESV

“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Romans 12:10 ESV

Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.

Romans 12:13-14 NLT

When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them.

  • Why does God wants us to be loving towards everyone?

1) Because it reveals God’s character through your life. His Love

2) Because of this spiritual law of reaping and sowing.

B) It Is Multiplied

Proverbs 11:24 NKJV

There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right, But it leads to poverty.

Proverbs 22:8 NLT

Those who plant injustice will harvest disaster, and their reign of terror will come to an end.

Calamity = an event which results in a great loss and misfortune. A disaster, a great disgrace or misfortune that causes great pain and/or affects many people.

C) It Has Its Own Timing

Ecclesiastes 8:11 NLT

When a crime is not punished quickly, people feel it is safe to do wrong.

Ecclesiastes 8:12 NLT

But even though a person sins a hundred times and still lives a long time, I know that those who fear God will be better off.

Galatians 6:9 NLT

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

D) Good Produces Good, Bad Produces Bad

Luke 6:43-44 NKJV

“For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush.

James 3:12 Passion

Is it possible that fresh and bitter water can flow out of the same spring? So neither can a bitter spring produce fresh water.

  • The key to breaking the law of sowing and reaping is to recognize when we are breaking the law of judgement.

CONCLUSION

  • We cannot properly mature and develop in becoming Truly Free until we are restrained from breaking the spiritual law of judgements.

To stop the curse of judgement:

1) Realize

2) Repent

3) Renounce

Titus 2:11-12 ESV

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,

Ex:  “In the Name of Jesus, I break the judgment I placed on my father. I repent for judging him for being detached and uncaring. I repent for the unkind things I said about him and the attitudes I displayed toward him. I now break the judgment I placed on my father from affecting him or me as I commit to love and pray for my father. Lord, forgive me for the sin of judging. Cleanse me and kill the negative harvest I have sown with my lips. Give me Your strength to change and to begin today to plant a crop of blessing and righteousness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Jeremiah 17:10 NKJV

I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways,

According to the fruit of his doings.

Psalm 139:23-24 NLT

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.

Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
