WORSHIP Is More Than A Sunday Thing

Psalm 111:1 (NKJV)

Praise the LORD! I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright and in the congregation.

Psalm 111:1 (MSG)

“Hallelujah! I give thanks to God with everything I’ve got”

  • Lifestyle = “a particular way of living: the way a person lives or a group of people live.”

1 Corinthians 10:31 (ESV)

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

  • A lifestyle of worship is living your life in a way that glorifies and honors God.
  • Worship isn’t simply an event or a place—it’s an orientation. It’s a way of life.

James 4:8 (ESV)

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

“If you will not worship God seven days a week, you will not worship Him on one day a week” — A.W. Tozer

Colossians 3:2 (ESV)

Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

A Lifestyle of Worship encourages you into an action to…

#1) LOVE

Luke 10:27 NLT

The man answered, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Mark 12:30-31 (ESV)

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

  • Worship is to love God. And if you love God you will love your neighbor.
  • Who is your neighbor?

According to the Jews… Neighbor (OT) = Sons of your own people; your kin; your group of people; limited reduced down group of people (not even all Jews) (Lev 19:18)

Leviticus 19:18 (ESV)

You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself…

Matthew 5:43-44 (NLT)

“You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!

Neighbor (NT) = everyone including strangers and your enemies.

  • To love your neighbor is to help meet their needs.

Isaiah 29:13 Voice

These people think they can draw near to Me by saying the right things, by honoring Me with their lips, but their hearts are far away from Me. Their worship of Me consists of man-made traditions learned by rote; it is a meaningless sham.

John 15:13 (ESV)

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

1 John 3:16 (ESV)

By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.

#2) SERVE

Joshua 24:15 NLT

But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.”

  • serve = âḇaḏ = work, enslave, keep in bondage, be bondmen, bond-service, labour, become servant.

Matthew 16:26 (ESV)

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?

Colossians 3:23-24 (ESV)

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.

#3) FORGIVE

Ephesians 4:31-32 (ESV)

Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Proverbs 17:9 (NLT)

Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends.

Colossians 1:13-14 (ESV)

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

  • You will never look more like Jesus than when you forgive!

#4) SACRIFICE

Romans 12:1-2 (ESV)

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Psalm 103:1-2 (ESV)

Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!

Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,

  • In other words, a lifestyle of worship is an attitude. An attitude that pushes you into action that results in being fruitful in the eyes of the Lord.

  • LOVE God… And if you love God you will love your neighbor.,
  • SERVE the Lord… And if you serve the Lord you will serve others as for the Lord.
  • FORGIVE others… And if you forgive others, God will forgive you when you repent.
  • SACRIFICE for God… And if you do it out of obedience, you will receive all His benefits.

CONCLUSION

“If you limit worship to where you are, the minute you leave that place of worship you will leave your attitude of worship behind like a crumpled-up church bulletin.” (Tony Evans).

  • Attitude = point of view, vantage point, frame of mind, way of thinking, way of looking at things,  perspective, reaction, orientation, approach; belief, convictions, interpretation.
  • Your attitude is a reflection of the posture of your heart. The posture of your heart is a reflection of the state your spirit.

Psalm 103:1-5 (ESV)

1 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!

2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,

3 who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,

4 who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,

5 who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

  • A lifestyle of worship is a reaction to God.
    • We love because God loved us first.
    • We serve because God served us first.
    • We forgive because God forgave us first.
    • We sacrifice because God sacrificed first.

  • How we love… how we serve… how we forgive… how we sacrifice… matters. Our attitude of worship matters. We need to live a life that glorifies and honors God… A lifestyle of worship. Wherever you go, wherever you are at… you can live a life that glorifies & honors God.
