MI CASA SU CASA PT 5: Service and Rest
INTRODUCTION
What is culture? Culture is the core values that describe what guides our philosophy of ministry and the decisions we make. We may all come from different cultures, but there is one culture that brings us together… The Kingdom Culture! Our desire is to bring the Kingdom Culture down. This is God’s House… and His message to all of us is… “MI CASA SU CASA.”
1 Kings 3:4-9 NKJV
Now the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place: Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.  At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask! What shall I give you?”
And Solomon said: “You have shown great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
Now, O Lord my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in.  And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?”
Numbers 27:15-17
Then Moses spoke to the Lord, saying: “Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, who may go out before them and go in before them, who may lead them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord may not be like sheep which have no shepherd.”
Deuteronomy 31:1-2
Then Moses went and spoke these words to all Israel. And he said to them: “I am one hundred and twenty years old today. I can no longer go out and come in…”
Joshua 14:11
As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in.
Coming In = Worship | Recharge | Rest
Going Out = Witnessing | Charge | Service
  • These are the two areas as children of God we must model and duplicate…
    • A Worshipper (Rest in Him)  and a Witness (Serve Him)
  • If water stops coming in, you dry out. If water stops going out, you become polluted.
Exodus 18:20
And you shall teach them the statutes and the laws, and show them the way in which they must walk and the work they must do.
#1) REST (COMING IN)
REST— We believe in living a life in rest that can only be found in God, and in doing so, we receive peace at all times.
Revelation 3:20 Passion
Behold, I’m standing at the door, knocking. If your heart is open to hear my voice and you open the door within, I will come in to you and feast with you, and you will feast with me.
  • If we don’t rest, the enemy will see it as an easy opportunity to attack.
  • Here are benefits to resting:
    • Supernatural — You give God an opportunity to provide for you supernaturally.
    • Refreshment — You give God the opportunity to refresh/recharge you.
    • Consequences — You avoid the consequences of when you don’t rest.
    • Blessings — You get to partake on all of His blessings.
How do we find rest|recharge?
1ST PRIORITY: SPIRIT & SOUL
Psalm 51:10-12 Passion
Create a new, clean heart within me. Fill me with pure thoughts and holy desires, ready to please you. May you never reject me! May you never take from me your sacred Spirit! Let my passion for life be restored, tasting joy in every breakthrough you bring to me. Hold me close to you with a willing spirit that obeys whatever you say.
Luke 24:49 Passion
And I will send the fulfillment of the Father’s promise to you. So stay here in the city until the mighty power of heaven falls upon you and wraps around you.”
  • We cannot sustain ourselves without God’s grace.
  • If you don’t enter into God’s rest, your soul is not well.
Genesis 2:7 Message
God formed Man out of dirt from the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life. The Man came alive—a living soul!
  • How can we achieve the rest of our being (our soul)?
    • We can achieve true rest when we give God the opportunity to breathe in us continuously.
2ND PRIORITY: BODY
Exodus 20:8-11 Message
Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Work six days and do everything you need to do. But the seventh day is a Sabbath to God, your God. Don’t do any work—not you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your servant, nor your maid, nor your animals, not even the foreign guest visiting in your town. For in six days God made Heaven, Earth, and sea, and everything in them; he rested on the seventh day. Therefore God blessed the Sabbath day; he set it apart as a holy day.
Deuteronomy 5:15
Don’t ever forget that you were slaves in Egypt and God, your God, got you out of there in a powerful show of strength. That’s why God, your God, commands you to observe the day of Sabbath rest.
  • Why do Christians burn-out? (Servants/co-labores/Church leaders/Volunteers)
    • It is because we have stopped COMING IN.
  • A Culture of Rest is to LIVE WITH HIM.
#2) SERVE (GOING OUT)
SERVICE— We believe in giving our lives in service to God and others. Serving others is the very definition of ministry.
1 Samuel 18:12-16
Now Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with him, but had departed from Saul. Therefore Saul removed him from his presence, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people. And David behaved wisely in all his ways, and the Lord was with him. Therefore, when Saul saw that he behaved very wisely, he was afraid of him. But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.
2 Samuel 11:1-2 NKJV
It happened in the spring of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the people of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem. Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold.
Luke 14: 15-24
Now when one of those who sat at the table with Him heard these things, he said to Him, “Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!”
Then He said to him, “A certain man gave a great supper and invited many, and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, ‘Come, for all things are now ready.’ But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.’ And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.’ Still another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’ So that servant came and reported these things to his master.
Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.’ And the servant said, ‘Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is room.’
Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. For I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my supper.’ ”
  • A Culture of Service is to LIVE FOR HIM.
CONCLUSION
  • We must rest in Him and serve Him.
LIVE WITH HIM & LIVE FOR HIM
  • There’s a problem when our complaints are greater than our worship.
    • Our water is contaminated.
  • There’s a problem when we are discouraged are not active in His Kingdom.
    • We are dried out.
  • Don’t lose your passion for Jesus, to live for Him and live with Him. This is who God has made you to be.
    • Coming In | Worshipper- to express your love in relationship with Him.
    • Going Out | Witness- to share His love through relationships with others.
  • Don’t get burned out because you haven’t lived in His culture.  Don’t lose the passion.
